Conference site

World Press Freedom Day 2010 activities will be held in the UQ Centre, a multi-function conference facility located at the heart of the UQ St Lucia campus.

Conference delegates travelling to the university from downtown Brisbane on Brisbane River transport have an easy walk from the UQ CityCat Terminal to the conference site. Car parking facilities are also nearby.

Key conference sessions, such as the opening and closing ceremonies, major plenaries and some parallel sessions, will be held in the UQ Centre’s 2,500 seat multi-purpose Exhibition Hall. Further parallel sessions will use the neighbouring Lecture Theatre, which can seat 462 delegates. Other nearby UQ theatres and conference rooms will house additional parallel sessions.

The conference secretariat will be located in the UQ Centre’s Board Room, while VIP facilities will also be in use. The lobby area outside the main conference rooms will host a range of exhibitor booths, while light refreshments (tea/coffee) and buffet lunches will be served in the kiosk area.

Expelled journalist tells his tale

Investigative journalist Robert Mukombozi has been arrested, kidnapped and shot at. In April 2008 he was deemed persona non grata and given five minutes to leave Rwandan soil. He has not seen his family since. Hear his tale of press freedom in our interactive timeline.
