The University of Queensland is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions. It is the oldest university in Queensland and celebrates its centenary in 2010.
The University is a founding member of the national Group of Eight, an alliance of research-strong "sandstone" universities committed to ensuring that Australia has higher education institutions that are genuinely world class.
It also belongs to the global Universitas 21 alliance. This group aims to enhance the quality of university outcomes through international benchmarking and a joint venture e-learning project with The Thomson Corporation.
UQ has produced generations of graduates who have gone on to become leaders in all areas of society and industry. Notable alumni include a Nobel Laureate, an Oscar winner and two Governors-General of Australia.
The School of Journalism and Communication is Australia’s longest established university journalism school. Celebrating 89 years of teaching and research excellence in journalism studies, the SJC is an outstanding learning and research institution with a strong national and international reputation.
